A true cloqué is like a carefree day at the sea. MARITIM – manufactured in Switzerland from the choicest swiss+cotton cloth. MARITIM is an innovation among Christian Fischbacher’s previous cloqué fabrics. Its manufacture requires a particular instinct, skilled craftsmanship and years of experience. The fabric, which is airy and extremely easy to look after and does not require ironing, features a flowing, maritime-inspired stripe design in pale blue and white. Dark blue accent stripes run like gossamer threads through the centre of the pale blue stripes. The vertical stripes are created by different degrees of tension in the material. Two warp beams are used to create this effect: the white stripes are woven at a very high point of tension, whilst the blue stripes are formed by weaving at a looser point of tension. This interplay results in the typical, three-dimensional effect of cloqués.

Christian Fischbacher, born 1803 in the village of St.Peterzell in Eastern Switzerland, founds the company at age of sixteen. A son of a farmer, the young Christian collects cotton fabrics woven by the farmer’s wives and trades them in the market in St. Gallen, travelling nearly 30 Km on foot to get there. For nearly two centuries, Christian Fischbacher has been at the heart of the textile industry. A family owned company, with headquarters in St. Gallen Switzerland, a centre for the textile industry since the 13th century. Their products are created with great attention to detail, a deep rooted passion for quality materials and constant drive for creative innovation.
